Returning again to the hallowed halls of BJB Studios in Sydney, Ambarchi expands the scope and range of his unique musical language, incorporating an even broader pallette of instruments and sensibilities. On "Hubris Pt. 1," Ambarchi sets out an arpeggiated guitar circle which fills in as a benchmark for his colleagues to play off and the track's 22-minute runtime gives an adequate canvas. My first listen to Hubris resulted in the below note, found scribbled on a note pad at my desk the next morning: "Giant stupid grin inducing fusion of New Music minimalism and krautrock groove." It’s a diverse group and they’re doing some excellent work. Really great stuff. And let me tell you something, people: it is going to pay off. You can count on that.

Lisa Blanning Oren Ambarchi was born in Sydney to an Iraqi Jewish family. Ambarchi has been performing live since 1986. In the late 1980s he played free jazz in Sydney, originally as a drummer. In an interview with ABC Radio broadcaster, Jon Rose, Ambarchi described how he started playing guitar, There happened to be one laying around in our rehearsal room.
